এখন আমরা Adjective এর Degree of Comparison নিয়ে আলোচনা করবো এবং ডিগ্রি পরিবর্তন এর পদ্ধতি শিখবো। Sentence এ Adjective এর মাত্রা বা গভীরতাকে Degree বলে। Degree তিন প্রকার। নিম্নে উদাহরণসহ ব্যাখ্যা করা হলো।
1. Positive Degree: যে Degree তে সাধারণ গুণের উল্লেখ করা হয় তাকে Positive Degree বলে।
গঠন: Positive Degree এর বাক্য সাধারণত No other/ Very few দ্বারা আরম্ভ হয়, অতঃপর as/so + adjective এর Positive form + as/so + Noun/ Pronoun হয়।
উদাহরণ— No other boy in the class is so good as he.
2. Comparative Degree: যে Degree তে দুই বা ততোধিক ব্যক্তি, বস্তু বা বিষয়ের মধ্যে গুণের তুলনা করা হয় তাকে Comparative Degree বলে।
গঠন: Comparative form এর পরে than/ than any other/ than most other/ than all other + বাকি তথ্য।
উদাহরণ— He is better than any other boy in the class.
3. Superlative Degree: যে Degree তে গুণকে সর্বোচ্চ বিবেচনা করা হয় তাকে Superlative Degree বলে।
গঠন: Superlative form এর পূর্বে 'the' বসে।
উদাহরণ— He is the best boy in the class.
আর এই Degree Changing করতে হলে আমাদেরকে Adjective এর বিভিন্ন Degree of Comparison রূপ তথা Adjective এর Positive, Comparative ও Superlative form সম্পর্কে জানতে হবে।
আর এই form গুলো কিছু কিছু ক্ষেত্রে নিয়ম প্রয়োগ করে তৈরি করা যায় এবং কিছু কিছু ক্ষেত্রে ভাষার অভিধানে থাকা শব্দগুলো আয়ত্ত করতে হয়। নিম্নে form তৈরি করার নিয়মসমূহ দেওয়া হলো।
1. এক Syllable বিশিষ্ট Adjective এর সহিত 'er' যুক্ত করে Comparative form এবং 'est' যুক্ত করে Superlative form গঠন করতে হয়।
যেমন—
Tall ------------- Taller ------------- Tallest
Big ------------- Bigger ------------ Biggest
Old ------------- Older ------------- Oldest
2. একাধিক Syllable হলে Adjective এর পূর্বে 'more' বসিয়ে Comparative form এবং 'most' বসিয়ে Superlative form গঠন করতে হয়।
যেমন—
Beautiful ----------- more beautiful ------------ most beautiful
Talented ----------- more talented ------------- most talented
3. ব্যতিক্রম (অধ্যয়ন করে শিখতে হবে)→
যেমন—
Good ------------ better ------------ best
Bad -------------- worse ------------ worst
❑ Changing Degree (ডিগ্রি পরিবর্তন): Degree পরিবর্তন করার জন্য নিম্নের টেবিলের তথ্যাদি আয়ত্বে রাখতে হবে→

1) Sup: He is the best boy in the class.
Com: He is better than any other boy in the class.
2) Sup: Dhaka is the biggest city in Bangladesh.
Com: Dhaka is bigger than any other city in Bangladesh.
3) Sup: The cow is the most useful animal.
Com: The cow is more useful than any other animal.
4) Sup: He is the wisest man in the village.
Com: He is wiser than any other man in the village.
5) Sup: He is one of the oldest men in the village.
Com: He is older than most other men in the village.
6) Sup: Chittagong is the largest seaport in Bangladesh.
Com: Chittagong is larger than any other seaport in Bangladesh.
[] Comparative to Positive
Comparative Degree কে Positive Degree তে রূপান্তর করতে দুইটি বিষয়ে লক্ষ্য রাখতে হবে—
এক, বাক্যটি Affirmative থাকলে তা Negative করতে হবে।
দুই, বাক্যটি বিপরীত দিক হতে পরিবর্তন করতে হবে।
Examples—
1) Com: He is better than any other man in the village.
Pos: No other man in the village is as good as he.
2) Com: Dhaka is bigger than any other city in Bangladesh.
Pos: No other city in Bangladesh is as big as Dhaka.
3) Com: He is stronger than most other men in the village.
Pos: Very few men in the village are as strong as he.
4) Com: She is nicer than all other girls in the class.
Pos: No other girl in the class is as nice as she.
[] Superlative to Positive
1) Sup: He is the best boy in the class.
Pos: No other boy in the class is as good as he.
2) Sup: She is the finest girl in the village.
Pos: No other girl in the village is as fine as she.
3) Sup: He is one of the most talented students in the school.
Pos: Very few students in the school are as talented as he.
♦ Practice (Positive-Comparative-Superlative):
1) Sup: He is the best boy in the class.
Com: He is better than any other boy in the class.
Pos: No other boy in the class is as good as he.
2) Sup: He is one of the best boys in the class.
Com: He is better than most other boys in the class.
Pos: Very few boys in the class are so good as he.
3) Sup: He is the best of all boys in the class.
Com: He is better than all other boys in the class.
Pos: No other boy in the class is as good as he.
4) Sup: Japan is one of the richest countries in the world.
Com: Japan is richer than most other countries in the world.
Pos: Very few countries in the world are as rich as Japan.
5) Sup: He is the oldest of all men in the village.
Com: He is older than all other men in the village.
Pos: No other man in the village is as old as he.
6. Sup: Cox's Bazar is the largest sea beach in the world.
Com: Cox's Bazar is larger than any other sea beach in the world.
Pos: No other sea beach in the world is as large as Cox's Bazar.
7. Com: Dhaka is bigger than Sylhet.
Pos: Sylhet is not as big as Dhaka.
***Note: One of the, very few, than most other এর পরের Noun টি সর্বদাই Plural Number হবে।
উপসংহার: Degree Changing শেখার জন্য প্রদত্ত টেবিলটিতে দেওয়া টুলস ওয়ার্ডগুলোর সম্পর্ক আয়ত্ত করে কোনো প্রশ্নব্যাংক কিংবা প্রাকটিস বুক থেকে প্রাকটিস করলেই হবে। এটা নিয়ে বৃহৎ সব গ্রামার বই থেকে নিয়ম মুখস্থ করতে গিয়ে হাঁপিয়ে ওঠার প্রয়োজন নেই। খুব সহজেই এটি শিখতে পারবে।

মাতৃস্নেহ অতুলনীয়, বাবার মতো বন্ধু কেউ নেই, পরিবার সবচেয়ে বড় আস্থার জায়গা হেন তেন— এইসব কথাবার্তা হলো ভুয়া এবং অতিরঞ্জিত কথাবার্তা। এই পৃথিবীতে কেউ কারো নয়, সবাই স্বার্থবাদী এবং সুবিধাবাদী— এই সত্যটা যে যত দ্রুত বুঝতে পারবে তার জন্য ততই মঙ্গল। এই পৃথিবীর সবাই চলে 'গিফ অ্যান্ড টেক' পলিসিতে; সবাই তোমার কাছে কিছু জিনিস প্রত্যাশা করে, আর সেই প্রত্যাশা নিয়েই তোমার উপর ইনভেস্ট করে। তুমি যদি সময়মতো সেই প্রত্যাশা পূরণ করতে না পারো তাহলেই বুঝবে তোমার প্রতি ইনভেস্ট করাটা ভালোবাসার দান ছিল নাকি প্রত্যাশার ইনভেস্ট ছিল। তুমি প্রত্যাশা পূরণে ব্যর্থ হলে তোমাকে দোষারোপ করা হবে; তুমি কী কারণে পারো নাই তা কেউ বুঝতে চাইবে না; ভুল বোঝার জন্য অনেকে থাকে, কিন্তু পরিস্থিতি বোঝার জন্য কেউ থাকে না। নিজের একান্ত দুর্দিনে কাউকেই পাশে পাওয়া যায় না। বাবা-মা, অমুক মামা, অমুক খালু, অমুক আঙ্কেল, অমুক ভাই-তমুক ভাই, অমুক বন্ধু-তমুক বন্ধু কাউকেই তখন পাশে পাওয়া যায় না।
প্রায় প্রত্যেকের জীবনেই একটা সংকটময় সময় থাকে। তোমার জীবনে সেই দুঃসময়টা যেদিন আসবে সেদিন থেকে তুমি পরিপূর্ণ ও সক্ষম মানুষ হতে শিখবে, সেদিন তুমি বুঝবে যে তুমি আসলে কে? অমুকের ছেলে বা মেয়ে, অমুকের ভাতিজা, অমুকের ভাই, অমুকের বন্ধু, ব্লা ব্লা— এসব কোনোটাই কাজে আসে না। তুমি আসলেই একা এবং তোমার নিজের পথ তোমাকে একাই গড়ে নিতে হবে। এক্ষেত্রে নিজের জ্ঞানবুদ্ধি, সাহস ও কর্মসক্ষমতাই একমাত্র সহায়ক হিসেবে কাজে আসে।
দেখা যায় ভদ্র ছেলেদের লাইফ অনেক কষ্টের হয়, কারণ তারা এই সত্যটা অনেক দেরিতে বুঝতে পারে। শৈশবে দুষ্টু থাকা ছেলেগুলো অল্প বয়সে ভুল করে ও এর দ্বারা বুঝে যায় তার কাছের মানুষগুলো আসলেই তার কতটা কাছের এবং সেই মাফিক লাইফ সাজিয়ে নিতে পারে। কিন্তু ভদ্র ছেলেগুলো এই বাস্তবতা অনুধাবন করতে শেখে অনেক দেরিতে।
এন্টিবায়োটিকের ডোজ কম্পিলিট না করলে দুর্বল হয়ে থেকে বেঁচে যাওয়া ভাইরাস ব্যাক্টেরিয়া যেমন পরিস্থিতি বুঝে নিজেদের গঠন চেঞ্জ করে ফেলে নিজেকে সেই পরিস্থিতিতে টিকে থাকার উপযোগী করে গড়ে তোলে, এই বইটি পড়লে সেইসব পরিস্থিতিতে থাকা তরুণরা যারা এখনও জানে না ভবিষ্যতে তাদের সাথে কী ঘটতে চলেছে সেইসব ছেলেমেয়েরাও নিজেদের প্রকৃত অবস্থা অনুধাবন করতে শিখবে ও নিজেকে সেই পরিস্থিতিতে টিকে থাকার জন্য সেইভাবে গড়ে তুলতে সক্ষম হবে।
তাই এরূপ বিভিন্ন কনজারভেটিভ ফ্যামিলির সন্তানদের লাইফের বিভিন্ন পরিস্থিতি গবেষণা করে তা থেকে উত্তরণের সম্ভাব্য পন্থা ও পদ্ধতি নিয়ে এই বইটি লেখা হয়েছে। বইটি সে সকল ছেলেমেয়েদের উপকারে এলে আমাদের এই পরিশ্রম ও প্রয়াস সার্থক হবে।
